MGM Resorts With a Casino License Application in Abu Dhabi
Big news in the casino world!
MGM Resorts has officially applied for a casino license in Abu Dhabi, a massive move for the gaming giant.
The UAE has been slowly opening up to the idea of regulated gaming, and MGM wants to be right there when it happens.
CEO Bill Hornbuckle confirmed that the company has submitted its proposal to the UAE’s General Commercial Gaming Regulatory Authority (GCGRA), which is responsible for overseeing all gaming licenses.
If they get the green light, MGM could become one of the first operators in the region, and that’s no small deal.
Why Does this Matter?
In March 2024, Bill Hornbuckle stated that the resort group is awaiting the formal process for a casino application to be released. Rumors spread about whether it would be the first casino in the Dubai area.
Well, the UAE is an untapped market when it comes to casinos, and with the country’s huge expat population and booming tourism, there’s a lot of potential for growth.
MGM is banking on this, hoping to position itself as a leader in this emerging market.
Abu Dhabi could soon be the next big name in the casino world, and MGM doesn’t want to miss out.
This application is their first step, and it’s a pretty bold one.
Now we wait to see if the license comes through, and you can check our list of regulated entities that have entered the casino market in Dubai.
